Welding at VD Leegte Metaal
“That I started welding is not very strange. Our dad used to make lots of things in the garage. When he heard over 34 years ago that they were looking for welders at VDL, he immediately thought of me. He was right: I never left. I have now been a welder for twenty years. I work a lot with my hands, but also with my head. Sometimes I make molds of 20 by 20 centimeters, other times of up to 10 meters long and 2 meters high. Sometimes with only a permissible dimensional deviation of 0.8 millimeters. A precision job, in other words!”
The fact that I have been working here for more than 30 years says it all. I'm having a great time!
“I work a lot with the work planners. They draw out the welding jigs for us. We also look for solutions together if we can't figure it out on a complicated project. And if necessary, I brood on it further at home. Because after all these years I know: sometimes the best solutions can be found in simple household products. For example, a vise once helped me find an answer to how to get a straight-line motion from a circular motion.”
