How did you end up at VDL TBP Electronics?

“I had been working as a lecturer and fundamental researcher at XIOS Hogeschool Limburg and Hasselt University for eight years when a vacancy for a Test & DfT (Design for Testing) consultant at tbp electronics landed in my mailbox. Since the academic world was not really a path I wanted to continue on and the job content appealed to me 100%, I was quickly convinced to accept the vacancy. And now, more than twelve years later, I am still happy with that decision.”

You are a Sr. Test & DfT Consultant. What exactly does this entail?

“A Sr. Test & DfT Consultant has a diverse range of tasks. For example, I initially analyse the data supplied by clients for completeness and ensure that the data ends up with the right colleagues to work with it. Afterwards, I review the electronic designs of the clients for testability (Design for Testing - DfT). How can we test the pcba during assembly so that possible assembly errors are found before the pcba leaves our assembly facility? This is the main question that occupies my mind during a DfT analysis. In addition to data intake and DfT analyses, the development of specific test solutions is also part of my job description, such as the Extended Boundary Scan (EBS) test solution.”

Working in technology is often seen as a man's world. How do you experience this?

“That is indeed sometimes difficult. In the meantime, it has become clear that my first name does not really offer any advantages in this respect. Leen is a common woman's name in Flanders, but in the Netherlands it is more often seen as a man's name. After sending business e-mails, I contact the client by telephone and then it is usually quiet on the other end of the line. A woman's voice was clearly not associated with this name. But fortunately that is only with external people. Incidentally, I have never had the feeling that my colleagues do not take me seriously.”
