Maurice Hendrikx Lead Architect

VDL ETG Technology & Development

Since 2022, Maurice has been working as Lead Electronics Architect at VDL ETG. In this role, he is technically responsible for the electronic design of one of our largest projects: a complex machine used in the high-tech industry. He works with a team of electronic engineers and other experts to devise and realize the best solutions for our customers.

Describe your position in 3 words.

“Knowledge, skills and leadership.”

What is important in your position as Lead Electronics Architect?

“As Lead Electronics Architect, you have a challenging and versatile role. You combine your knowledge, skills and leadership to create innovative solutions for our customers. You know how to apply industry norms and standards, how to translate the customer's technical requirements into a concept. Then you look at how to produce the design in the best possible way. This requires you to be skilled in designing, testing and documenting the electrical infrastructure, such as interconnection PCBs, 19-inch racks, cabling, robot controls and various mechatronic solutions. In doing so, you will take the lead in organizing and coordinating the technical aspects of a project, coordinating with the customer, project leader, system architect and other technical leads. You support and motivate your team.”

What do you enjoy about your job?

“Every day you are challenged anew. I enjoy learning new things, innovating and improving. I also enjoy seeing how our designs become reality, from a new idea to a functioning machine in the form of a prototype, to handing over to the factory that will build the machine in numbers. This is a very nice and interesting process to supervise. In addition, as an Architect you get involved in (almost) everything so you see a lot of the organization.”

What is the highlight of your career so far?

“Reaching an agreement with our client on the technical execution within limits of time and cost. This was a result of good cooperation, communication and commitment from all involved. I am also proud of the various steps we have taken in the realization of the project, such as the design of an architecture for a new machine, the specification and realization of a new Robot Controller and the realization of the first prototypes that work.”

What advice would you give someone considering applying to VDL ETG?

“My advice would be: discover your passion in high-tech! What sets VDL ETG apart are the many possibilities, whether you like the real design and development, or more the maintenance and support of existing systems, or the production and assembly of systems. All of this is present at VDL ETG. VDL ETG is a company with ambition. If you indicate what you need to realize your plan, it will come together.”
